The night before Valentines day Lottie told me she just couldn't sleep because she was so excited. Oh boy, so much expectation. Well John and I hid 24 hearts all over the house before we went to bed so there would be some kind of celebration when she got up.
When they each brought me all the hearts they could find I gave them a present. They needed new summer shoes and so I just called that a valentines present.
It was pretty low key the rest of the day. We had their favorite chicken pizza and sparkling cider in plastic wine flutes. We played a little don't eat pete with the rest of our valentines candy and called it a night.
One thing that the kids initiated all on their on were these little pink hearts. I loved this! Charlie's most favorite thing to do all month was to have me draw hearts on the pink paper and then he would cut them out. He did this for hours at a time. Then the other kids would write notes to each other and stick them in our old mailbox they found in the garage. I had nothing to do with it, it was just their thing. So after dinner we got all the notes out laughed over all the funny things people had written. Or tried to decipher what Lottie had written. New tradition! I loved it.
