Fully committed to my 30's

Today was my birthday.  I turned 31.  My 30th birthday was weird since I was just barely out of the hospital with Ivy and I was sore and exhausted and she was really jaundicey and stuck on that stupid bilirubin table.  This birthday though was awesome.  I got to go for a little jog this morning (really little - 1 mile) and lay on my bed and talk to my sister on the phone for a long long time.  Then I went out to lunch with my mom and to Kohls to spend my free $10 gift card.  (Have you gotten one of those in the mail? It's the coolest thing ever),  I got pedi's with my sisters-in-law and then had dinner and my husbands traditional birthday chocolate cake for dessert.  A perfectly lovely day.
Unlike some people I know, ahem- my husband- I seriously enjoy getting older every year.  Being the youngest of 6 kids I have a real little sister complex.  I've always felt, just, young.  Younger and dumber and less experienced than everyone around me.  Even now, with 4 kids of my own, a mini van and "smile lines" I feel like I'm kind of faking it.  Like I'm playing house and trying to act like a grown-up.  But at 31, I'm officially older than a lot of people I know.  It's a strange and slightly exciting feeling.

So here's the plan for this year:

--run in a race
--learn to play the piano
--make and stick to a budget
--buck up and take my kids camping
--have someone teach me how to use photoshop
--maybe, possibly, if I can get up my courage, have another baby
--and take good care of this guy:

As my gift to you on this my 31st birthday here's my favorite new find:
We have breakfast for dinner once a week and lately the breakfast of choice is french toast with that thick Costco texas toast bread.  One day I wasn't in the mood for syrup so I made this almond glaze instead and it blew my mind.  We haven't gone back to syrup since, it just can't compare.

Almond Glaze
1 cube butter, melted
2 or so cups powdered sugar
1 or 2 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp almond extract

just whisk it all together adding a little more milk if it's too thick or a little more powdered sugar if it's too thin and then drizzle it over french toast or pancakes or waffles or straight into your mouth.  Whatever..
