One of my husbands favorite bands happened to be playing in Salt Lake the day after my birthday so my parents agreed to watch the kidlets so we could go see them. Since you don't get out of club shows until like 2 or 3 in the morning we got a hotel up there and had the best 2 days ever. Seriously, if I had to describe my perfect day this would have been it. We left the kids after we fed them dinner and put Ivy in bed. We drove up to Salt Lake and people watched while we ate a good meal.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre show was crazy. Us and about 200 little indie rocker boys packed into this sweaty little club. Luckily I found a little guard rail that I hoisted myself up on or I think I would have been trampled. It was a fun show though, really loud music and a lot of excitement.
We got to the hotel at about 3 am and had to shower because we smelled like sweaty club. I didn't mind though since we had no kids to wake us up at 7:30 like we do every other morning. I had big plans of sleeping in until like noon. But, to my dismay my eyes popped open at 7:30 just like normal. John's too. Oh well, still so fun.
We got dressed and got ourselves some all you can eat french toast from Kneaders at City Creek.
We spent the rest of the day shopping. Well, I shopped while John laid on a bench outside H & M and took a nap in the sun. I would have loved to see the faces of people as they walked past him. He said he was really out. I spent a frustrating hour and a half in Forever 21 and H & M. I was so excited to find something cool but everything I tried on looked horrible. I bought a couple things but I wasn't all that happy about it. When I finally came out and woke up John to tell him about it he said maybe I should try a different store, like the Gap. I learned a valuable lesson today - I'm too old for Forever 21 or H & M. That's why it was so frustrating. Gap stuff was so much better for me. So I went and returned all the other stuff and just kept my 3 shirts from the Gap.
Next we saw The Avengers. It was great. I've been waiting years to see this and it did not disappoint. We got a huge drink though and about halfway through the movie I thought I was going to die so I waited for a quiet scene and made a run for the bathroom. When I ran back in the theater I sprinted up the stairs and down the row to sit next to John. To my surprise though I heard John whisper from 3 rows down, "hey, Brielle, don't sit next to that guy!" I turned and looked at the guy I was sitting next to and it was some old man laughing at me. I couldn't stop laughing about it for the rest of the movie. So embarrassing.
My mom told us to stay out all day so we decided to go make use of our new pass of all passes and stopped at the Trafalga in Lehi for some cosmic mini golf and bumber boats. We had so much fun. It's like the more time we spent away from our lives the more funny everything became. We were super cheerful and chatty with everyone everywhere we went. Usually we are so preoccupied with our kids' needs that we aren't very much fun when we're out with them.
We stopped at JCW's on our way home for dinner and got my parents some "You've Saved Our Sanity" milkshakes. It was the most fun 3 days I've had in a long time. I'm so lucky to be married to the coolest boy I've ever met and I'm so lucky to have my Mom and Dad to babysit our kids so we can remember the reason we fell in love in the first place. I'm one lucky girl.
