Bewitching Hour

Every mom knows that the worst time of day is from about 4 until dinner.  We have dinner every night at 5 so that the kids can be in their beds by 6:30 so from 4 to 5 is my worst time.  Especially since it hasn't stopped snowing in 9 days and isn't expected to stop any time soon.  I'm thinking about making a paper chain with 63 links.  63 is how many days until April 1.  Until then here's what we're doing to get through the bewitching hour.

Pillows.  They are used for everything: an island in a sea of hot lava, a train, and in this case an intricate maze that took Jack and Lottie all afternoon to build.
These are window markers.  We have big glass doors in the dining room which is the perfect canvas for markers.  This is a picture Jack drew of him teaching Charlie how to crawl.  I asked Jack which one was him and he said the one with the freckles of course!  The best part about window markers are when they're done they fight over who gets to wash down the window.  Fighting about who gets to wash windows?  I'll take it!
Of course Legos - all my boys adore Legos.  They could build for hours and do all the time.  They are perfect for keeping everyone busy until dinner.

I could sure use some more ideas?

I wish I had ideas. I like the window markers! But usually when dinner comes around and I'm trying to get it together the kids either just play with toys or I put on a movie. I know it's horrible, but sometimes it's the only thing that will keep them still and not whine for dinner the whole time I'm making it.

I am with Shauna...in fact, this winter, we've watched WAY more movies than I ever thought I'd allow my children to do...

iPad. So many educational games and shows to watch. So easy to use a 2 yr. old can do it without help. Great for long car rides too.

starfall .com is a great website with lots of fun learning games!
when I was pregnant, I always loved playing boat. Make a boat out of blankets, and while you lay down and "hold the ship down" the kids can dive off and go fish for food and bring back stuffed animals they rescued from the flood.
Good way to get a little rest in ;)
