Thursday morning we walked down the beach to the tide pools. Luckily there was some kind of marine biology class there at the same time and they were finding all kinds of awesome stuff. Plus the teacher would tell us all about these things. This was a sea slug:
Tiny Octopus:
We also found a million tiny crabs and two huge purple crabs.
Tide pools are just so cool.
After that we found this secluded little beach that was enclosed with these rock walls on either side so the kids couldn't go to far. We set up our chairs and blankets and lunch from the cooler and little splash pool for Wren.
I brought all kinds of beach toys and activities for the kids to do but we didn't really use any of it. Those kids could play in those waves for days.
It was fun to see dad in his element. Scoffing at all the surfers, "you're not really going to take that wave are you?" "oh no, he did, I can't believe it..."
Again, what would we have done without my mom and dad. They are what makes any of this possible.
Wreni finally warmed up to all the and was having so much fun rolling around in the sand. At one point she rolled to close to where the other kids were playing and a wave rolled in and got her all wet. Scared her to death. But we all just laughed and laughed. It was so adorable.
Even John and I couldn't stay out of the water. In fact after the kids were all worn out at dinner time we packed them all up in the car and my mom and dad took them back to the beach house to clean them up and John and I swam for another hour. Why is the beach so fun? It just is.
That night we went to the farmers market in Carlsbad Village and tasted everything and got some fruit and cheese and things for our drive home. We had every intention of leaving early the next morning. We really did. But in the morning when I just through out the idea of staying another night John agreed without any argument. It was ridiculously easy. We just weren't ready yet.
