John and I are trying to figure out who we want to be as a family.  We have thought about becoming a biking family but John's a much much tougher biker than I am so it's hard to do together.  We've thought about being a mule riding family since we have access to mules but some of my children (Lottie) is terrified of all living creatures besides humans.  I want to be a boating family because I love the water but who can afford a boat?  So we tried out being a racing family this weekend.  A whole bunch of the Wollenziens decided to do the Dirty Dash.  Here we are before the race all fresh and clean.

Oh man, I wish we could have gotten pictures of us during the race - it was crazy.  John was throwing me up and over walls, dragging me through mud pits, pulling my hand up the hills.  It was a good team building exercise, and super fun.  I was a teeny bit unprepared for the 5 miles of jogging but I pushed through it.  Now though, my body is so sore and exhausted.  I'm such a wimp.
We had the Jack and Lottie do the kids race.  They didn't last long.  Jack made it up the first muddy hill and wanted to go and change his clothes.  Lottie made it the whole way but experienced it safely perched on Johns shoulders.
And then Johns shorts finally gave out.  These are the same shorts he ran his marathon in and they couldn't hold together any longer.  He said he actually really enjoyed running in a little skirt.
My sister-in-law told us to bring our camp shower to hose off with afterwards and it was brilliant.  A nice hot shower felt sooooo good.  We got ourselves rinsed off and went out for burgers and milkshakes.  (John is not really this tired- 5 miles is nothing to him, unlike me)
So we tried out being a racing family and it was fun.  But is it just me or does it seem like everyone is a runner lately?  Plus it kind of bugged me thinking how much money this race must have made.  I mean there were thousands of people there.  Where does all this money go?  Anyway, we are still trying to figure what our family thing is going to be.

Brielle, I think you are already doing great at being an Eternal Family, you already have a great start, with such great kids.
Miss you in Indiana, and wish you the best always.
