When we decide where we're going to settle John and I have agreed that our house must have lots and lots of land where Jack and Lottie can play with baby goats, and maybe a donkey, and some chickens would be fun too.
I think that's a great idea. I think I would like to have land someday too, but the most I think I would venture for now is some chickens. I don't know why, but I'd like to be able to say, "Hey Gav can you go and grab us some eggs for breakfast?"
All that says to me is "more work." I have enough work with my kids, my house and .22 acres. Maybe by then Jack and Lottie will be old enough to do the work and take care of the animals rather than just "play" with them. That, and I'm not a fan of that "farm poop" smell. To each their own, I guess.
We've got 8 baby chicks brooding in a box right now and my husband is building the chicken coop as we speak. Next is to build a barn and get a Jersey milk cow. Just take my advice and move to a more moderate climate than mine. We moved to a higher Utah elevation (so we could afford our 2.5 acres)and it is COLD and WINDY! Times like these I wish I lived back on the Oregon coast where I could garden year round.

Just come visit us!!! I'll let you milk the goat and collect the eggs from the chickens!
Can you settle close to us and let us come and visit?
I will send my kids over to your farm for the summer and you can teach them values and hard work and all of that after school movie special stuff.
I agree with Stephanie about not needing more work, but I also think it would be awesome.
